Play well, live well.
SwingFit aims to reduce the amount of injuries and unnecessary discomfort we see all too often on the physio table. By investing a small amount of time in your body you can get huge, long-term benefits for your golf and for your general wellbeing.
The programmes have been designed by a team led by Chartered Physiotherapist and golf specialist Ed Voss. Using his clinical experience and expertise, Ed has developed a scheme that gives golfers a specific and effective programme to keep them in the best possible shape, round after round. The programmes utilise a range of simple, targeted exercises which require no specialist equipment or restrictive regimens.
“I have always been fascinated with the human body so a career in Physiotherapy was an obvious choice. I’ve now been working in the field for 13 years, along with 6 years experience as a Pilates instructor. As a keen sportsman it has been my passion to not only help people recover from injuries and get them back to doing what they love, but also to be a guide in how to improve performance and resilience to reduce the risk of future injuries. I have been swinging golf clubs for 30 years and count myself incredibly fortunate to be able to combine my work with my love of golf.
Having worked with golfers for more than a decade I routinely see common traits in people where a simple solution would provide significant gains on the course. During the Covid pandemic I quickly moved to providing online sessions, as well as observing how our exercise habits changed, which opened my eyes to the possibility of helping a much wider audience. Having spent time working alongside, observing, and learning from some of the leading practitioners in the field I have developed a simple yet robust programme that will benefit golfers not only when they are playing by increasing club head speed and reducing injury risk, but beyond into their day to day lives in terms of recovery and general well-being. Golfers at the very top of the game are athletes who train, condition, and utilise effective nutrition to improve their game, and these principles are applicable to every one of us, not just the pros!
I grew up being told that ‘you get out of life what you put in’, and that advice is 100% applicable to our training and golf. There is only one way to improve and that is to turn up consistently and to put the time and effort into yourself. That being said, I know that for many of us life is busy, and it can be hard to find the time for ourselves so the programme is designed to get as much bang for your buck in short sessions that can be done in the comfort of your own home. If you are willing to spend a little time improving your physical attributes (as well as practising your golf, of course) then you will see some significant gains in your golf using the SwingFit programme.
As well as being a golfer I run with the dog to keep myself fit. Since I’ve been using the SwingFit programme (yes, I do try to practise what I preach!) alongside some more consistent practice, my handicap has dropped from 19 to 12 over the past 12 months. It would be lower if I was able to play more but with two young children and a busy work schedule then my playing opportunities are a little more limited than I would like – once I can get the kids on the range and course, I’ll be targeting getting down to single figures!”
